Open passage
Or if not here those heroes dwell
Open passage
Whose mighty arms their foeman quell,
Open passage
Still other hermits here must be
Open passage
Like Ráma, true and good as he.”
Open passage
His ears attentive Bharat lent
Open passage
To their resistless argument,
Open passage
Then to his troops the chief who broke
Open passage
His foe's embattled armies spoke:
Open passage
“Here let the troops in silence stay;
Open passage
One step beyond they must not stray.
Open passage
Come Dhrishṭi and Sumantra, you
Open passage
With me alone the path pursue.”
Open passage
Their leader's speech the warriors heard,
Open passage
And from his place no soldier stirred,
Open passage
And Bharat bent his eager eyes
Open passage
Where curling smoke was seen to rise.
Open passage
The host his order well obeyed,
Open passage
And halting there in silence stayed
Open passage
Watching where from the thicket's shade

They saw the smoke appear.
Open passage
And joy through all the army ran,
Open passage
“Soon shall we meet,” thought every man,
Open passage
“The prince we hold so dear.”
