Project Gutenberg EPUB3 edition Valmiki and Griffith, Ralph T. H. (Ralph Thomas Hotchkin)
Open passage
Like night when not a star appears,
Open passage
Like a sad widow drowned in tears,
Open passage
Ayodhyá's city, dark and dim,
Open passage
Reft of her lord was sad for him.
Open passage
When thus for woe the king to heaven had fled,
Open passage
And still on earth his lovely wives remained.
Open passage
With dying light the sun to rest had sped,
Open passage
And night triumphant o'er the landscape reigned.
