Open passage
1As, when the deluge-waves were gone,
Open passage
Hills, plains, and vales in freshness burst,
Open passage
And nature's earliest rainbow shone
Open passage
On scenes more lovely than the first,
Open passage
2Loosed from the ark, a heavenly dove,
Open passage
The promise-branch of olive bore,--
Open passage
Pledge of returning peace and love
Open passage
That beamed more brightly than before:--
Open passage
3So when affliction's waters glide
Open passage
From the enfranchised soul away,
Open passage
More peaceful, pure, and sanctified,
Open passage
The soul emerges into day.
Open passage
4And then, as with the olive bough
Open passage
The heavenly dove of old drew near,
Open passage
Some gentle words of truth will flow,
Open passage
In holy music on the ear.
Open passage
5O'er all the transient things of time,
Open passage
The oblivious foot of years hath trod;
Open passage
But all that's sacred and sublime
Open passage
Stands steadfast as the truth of God.
