Open passage
While beauty in my face is,
Open passage
For God, you know, loves lasses,
Open passage
And, more than all, the fair.
Open passage
And if yon hapless monkling
Open passage
Is fain with me to live,
Open passage
Like many another monkling,
Open passage
God surely will forgive.
Open passage
No grey old priestly devil,
Open passage
But, young, with cheeks aflame—
Open passage
Who e'en when sick with revel,
Open passage
Can jealous be and blame.
Open passage
To greybeards I'm a stranger,
Open passage
And he, too, hates the old:
Open passage
Of God, the world-arranger,
Open passage
The Church has ken of living,
Open passage
And tests by heart and face.
Open passage
To me she'll be forgiving!
Open passage
Who will not show me grace?
Open passage
I lisp with pretty halting,
Open passage
I curtsey, bid "good day,"
Open passage
And with the fresh defaulting
Open passage
Praise be this man-God's guerdon,
Open passage
Who loves all maidens fair,
Open passage
And his own heart can pardon
Open passage
The sin he planted there.
Open passage
While beauty in my face is,
Open passage
When age has killed my graces,
Open passage
Let Satan claim my hand!
