Open passage
Thus all the princely Vánars, true
Open passage
To their appointed tasks, withdrew.
Open passage
Sugríva deemed already done
Open passage
The work he planned for Raghu's son.
Open passage
Then Lakshmaṇ gently spoke and cheered
Open passage
Sugríva for his valour feared:
Open passage
“Now, chieftain, if thy will be so,
Open passage
Forth from Kishkindhá let us go.”
Open passage
Sugríva's heart swelled high with pride
Open passage
As to the prince he thus replied:
Open passage
“Come, speed we forth without delay:
Open passage
'Tis mine thy mandate to obey.”
Open passage
Sugríva bade the dames adieu,
Open passage
And Tárá and the rest withdrew.
Open passage
Then at their chieftain's summons came
Open passage
The Vánars first in rank and fame,
Open passage
A trusty brave and reverent band,
Open passage
Meet e'en before a queen to stand.
Open passage
They at his call made haste to bring
Open passage
The litter of the glorious king.
Open passage
“Mount, O my friend.” Sugríva cried,
Open passage
And straight Sumitrá's son complied.
Open passage
Then took by Lakshmaṇ's side his place
Open passage
The sovereign of the woodland race,
Open passage
Upraised by Vánars, fleet and strong,
Open passage
Who bore the glittering load along.
Open passage
On high above his royal head
Open passage
A paly canopy was spread,
Open passage
And chouries white in many a hand
Open passage
The forehead of the monarch fanned,
Open passage
And shell and drum and song and shout
Open passage
Pealed round him as the king passed out.
Open passage
About the monarch went a throng
Open passage
Of Vánar warriors brave and strong,
Open passage
As onward to the mountain shade
Open passage
Where Ráma dwelt his way he made.
Open passage
Soon as the lovely spot he viewed
Open passage
Where Ráma lived in solitude,
Open passage
The Vánar monarch, far-renowed,
Open passage
With Lakshmaṇ, lightly stepped to ground,
