Project Gutenberg EPUB edition Ḥāfiẓ, active 14th century and Bell, Gertrude Lowthian
Open passage
Wind from the east, oh Lapwing of the day,
Open passage
I send thee to my Lady, though the way
Open passage
Is far to Saba, where I bid thee fly;
Open passage
Lest in the dust thy tameless wings should lie,
Open passage
Broken with grief, I send thee to thy nest,
Open passage
Or far or near there is no halting-place
Open passage
Upon Love’s road—absent, I see thy face,
Open passage
And in thine ear my wind-blown greetings sound,
Open passage
North winds and east waft them where they are bound,
Open passage
Each morn and eve convoys of greeting fair
Open passage
Unto mine eyes a stranger, thou that art
Open passage
A comrade ever-present to my heart,
Open passage
What whispered prayers and what full meed of praise
Open passage
Lest Sorrow’s army waste thy heart’s domain,
Open passage
I send my life to bring thee peace again,
Open passage
Dear life thy ransom! From thy singers learn
Open passage
How one that longs for thee may weep and burn;
Open passage
Sonnets and broken words, sweet notes and songs
Open passage
Give me the cup! a voice rings in mine ears
Open passage
Crying: “Bear patiently the bitter years!
Open passage
For all thine ills, I send thee heavenly grace.
Open passage
God the Creator mirrored in thy face
Open passage
Thine eyes shall see, God’s image in the glass
Open passage
“Hafiz, thy praise alone my comrades sing;
Open passage
Hasten to us, thou that art sorrowing!
Open passage
A robe of honour and a harnessed steed
