The Rámáyan of Válmíki, translated into English verse

Canto XI. Dundubhi.

Project Gutenberg EPUB3 edition Valmiki and Griffith, Ralph T. H. (Ralph Thomas Hotchkin)
Open passage
By thee a heap of mouldering bone,
Open passage
By him the recent corse was thrown.
Open passage
Thy strength, O Prince, is yet untried:
Open passage
Come, pierce one tree: let this decide.
Open passage
Prepare thy ponderous bow and bring
Open passage
Close to thine ear the straining string.
Open passage
On yonder Sál tree fix thine eye,
Open passage
And let the mighty arrow fly,
Open passage
I doubt not, chief, that I shall see
Open passage
Thy pointed shaft transfix the tree.
Open passage
Then come, assay the easy task,
Open passage
And do for love the thing I ask.
Open passage
Best of all lights, the Day-God fills
Open passage
With glory earth and sky:
Open passage
Himálaya is the lord of hills
Open passage
That heave their heads on high.
Open passage
The royal lion is the best
Open passage
Of beasts that tread the earth;
Open passage
And thou, O hero, art confessed
Open passage
First in heroic worth.”
