Project Gutenberg EPUB3 edition Valmiki and Griffith, Ralph T. H. (Ralph Thomas Hotchkin)
Open passage
What care I for a monarch's name,
Open passage
For empire, or the Maithil dame?
Open passage
What joy can power and riches give,
Open passage
Or life that I should care to live,
Open passage
Unless this arm in mortal fray
Open passage
The slayer of my brother slay?
Open passage
For me, of Kumbhakarṇa reft,
Open passage
Death is the only solace left;
Open passage
And I will seek, o'erwhelmed with woes,
Open passage
The realm to which my brother goes.
Open passage
Ah me ill-minded, not to take
Open passage
His counsel when Vibhishaṇ spake
Open passage
When he this evil day foretold
Open passage
My foolish heart was overbold:
Open passage
I drove my sage adviser hence,
Open passage
And reap the fruits of mine offence.”
