Project Gutenberg EPUB3 edition Valmiki and Griffith, Ralph T. H. (Ralph Thomas Hotchkin)
Open passage
The moving beasts the dread allay,
Open passage
So drive thy whelming fear away,”
Open passage
As he and Daśaratha spoke
Open passage
A tempest from the welkin broke,
Open passage
That shook the spacious earth amain
Open passage
And hurled high trees upon the plain.
Open passage
The sun grew dark with murky cloud,
Open passage
And o'er the skies was cast a shroud,
Open passage
While o'er the army, faint with dread,
Open passage

Invincible like those which flew
Open passage
From Śiva's ever-conquering bow
Open passage
And Tripura in death laid low.
Open passage
When his wild form, that struck with awe,
Open passage
Fearful as ravening flame, they saw,
Open passage
Vaśishṭha and the saints whose care
Open passage
Was sacrifice and muttered prayer,
Open passage
Drew close together, each to each,
Open passage
And questioned thus with bated speech:
Open passage
“Indignant at his father's fate
Open passage
Will he on warriors vent his hate,
Open passage
The slayers of his father slay,
Open passage
And sweep the loathed race away?
Open passage
But when of old his fury raged
Open passage
Seas of their blood his wrath assuaged:
