Open passage
1Thou art, almighty Lord of all,
Open passage
From everlasting still the same;
Open passage
Before thee dazzling seraphs fall,
Open passage
And veil their faces in a flame,
Open passage
To see such bright perfections glow--
Open passage
Such floods of glory from thee flow.
Open passage
2What mortal hand shall dare to paint
Open passage
A semblance of thy glory, Lord?
Open passage
The brightest rainbow-tints are faint;
Open passage
The brightest stars of heaven afford
Open passage
But dim effusions of those rays
Open passage
Of light that round Jehovah blaze.
Open passage
3The sun himself is but a gleam,
Open passage
A transient meteor, from thy throne;
Open passage
And every frail and fickle beam,
Open passage
That ever in creation shone,
Open passage
Is nothing, Lord, compared to thee
Open passage
In thy own vast immensity.
Open passage
4But though thy brightness may create
Open passage
All worship from the hosts above,
Open passage
What most thy name must elevate
Open passage
Is, that thou art a God of love;
Open passage
And mercy is the central sun
Open passage
Of all thy glories joined in one.
