Canto XCIX. Bharat's Approach.

Project Gutenberg EPUB3 edition Valmiki and Griffith, Ralph T. H. (Ralph Thomas Hotchkin)
Open passage
Soon as the warriors took their rest
Open passage
Obeying Bharat's high behest,
Open passage
Thus Bharat to Śatrughna spake:
Open passage
“A band of soldiers with thee take,
Open passage
And with these hunters o'er and o'er
Open passage
The thickets of the wood explore.
Open passage
With bow, sword, arrows in their hands
Open passage
Let Guha with his kindred bands
Open passage
Within this grove remaining trace
Open passage
The children of Kakutstha's race.
Open passage
And I meanwhile on foot will through
Open passage
This neighbouring wood my way pursue,
Open passage
With elders and the twice-born men,
Open passage
And every lord and citizen.
Open passage
There is, I feel, no rest for me
Open passage
Till Ráma's face again I see,
Open passage
Lakshmaṇ, in arms and glory great,
Open passage
And Sítá born to happy fate:
Open passage
No rest, until his cheek as bright
Open passage
As the fair moon rejoice my sight,
Open passage
No rest until I see the eye
Open passage
With which the lotus petals vie;
Open passage
Till on my head those dear feet rest
Open passage
With signs of royal rank impressed;
Open passage
None, till my kingly brother gain
Open passage
His old hereditary reign,
Open passage
Till o'er his limbs and noble head
Open passage
The consecrating drops be shed.
Open passage
How blest is Janak's daughter, true
Open passage
To every wifely duty, who
Open passage
Cleaves faithful to her husband's side
Open passage
Whose realm is girt by Ocean's tide!
Open passage
This mountain too above the rest
Open passage
E'en as the King of Hills is blest,—
Open passage
Whose shades Kakutstha's scion hold
Open passage
As Nandan charms the Lord of Gold.
Open passage
Yea, happy is this tangled grove
Open passage
Where savage beasts unnumbered rove,
Open passage
Where, glory of the Warrior race,
Open passage
King Ráma finds a dwelling-place.”
