Canto III. Lanká.

Project Gutenberg EPUB3 edition Valmiki and Griffith, Ralph T. H. (Ralph Thomas Hotchkin)
Open passage
My fury hurled those ramparts down,
Open passage
Filled up the moats that gird the town,
Open passage
The piers and portals overturned,
Open passage
And stately Lanká spoiled and burned.
Open passage
Howe'er we Vánars force our way
Open passage
O'er the wide seat of Varuṇ's899 sway,
Open passage
Be sure that city of the foe
Open passage
Is doomed to sudden overthrow,
Open passage
Nay, why so vast an army lead?
Open passage
Brave Angad, Dwivid good at need,
Open passage
Fierce Mainda, Panas famed in fight,
Open passage
And Níla's skill and Nala's might,
Open passage
And Jámbaván the strong and wise,
Open passage
Will dare the easy enterprise.
Open passage
Assailed by these shall Lanká fall
Open passage
With gate and rampart, tower and wall.
Open passage
Command the gathering, chief: and they
Open passage
In happy hour will haste away.”
