Project Gutenberg EPUB3 edition Valmiki and Griffith, Ralph T. H. (Ralph Thomas Hotchkin)
Open passage
Dearer and dearer Ráma grew
Open passage
To Daśaratha, Bráhmans, all
Open passage
In town and country, great and small.
Open passage
And Ráma by his darling's side
Open passage
Saw many a blissful season glide,
Open passage
Lodged in her soul, each thought on her,
Open passage
Lover, and friend, and worshipper.
Open passage
He loved her for his father's voice
Open passage
Had given her and approved the choice:
Open passage
He loved her for each charm she wore
Open passage
And her sweet virtues more and more.
Open passage
So he her lord and second life
Open passage
Dwelt in the bosom of his wife,
Open passage
In double form, that, e'en apart,
Open passage
Each heart could commune free with heart.
Open passage
Still grew that child of Janak's race,
Open passage
More goddess-fair in form and face,
Open passage
The loveliest wife that e'er was seen,
Open passage
In mortal mould sweet Beauty's Queen.
Open passage
Then shone the son Kauśalyá bore,
Open passage
With this bright dame allied,
Open passage
Like Vishṇu whom the Gods adore,
Open passage
With Lakshmi by his side.
