Open passage
A tiger's mighty skin, a bull
Open passage
With gilded horns most beautiful.
Open passage
All these, at dawn of coming day,
Open passage
Around the royal shrine array,
Open passage
Where burns the fire's undying ray.
Open passage
Each palace door, each city gate
Open passage
With wreaths of sandal decorate.
Open passage
And with the garlands' fragrant scent
Open passage
Let clouds of incense-smoke be blent.
Open passage
Let food of noble kind and taste
Open passage
Be for a hundred thousand placed;
Open passage
Fresh curds with streams of milk bedewed
Open passage
To feed the Bráhman multitude.
Open passage
With care be all their wants supplied.
Open passage
And mid the twice-born chiefs divide
Open passage
Rich largess, with the early morn,
Open passage
And oil and curds and roasted corn.
Open passage
Soon as the sun has shown his light
Open passage
Pronounce the prayer to bless the rite,
Open passage
And then be all the Bráhmans called
Open passage
And in their ordered seats installed.
Open passage
Let all musicians skilled to play,
Open passage
And dancing-girls in bright array
Open passage
Stand ready in the second ring
Open passage
Within the palace of the king.
Open passage
Each honoured tree, each holy shrine
Open passage
With leaves and flowery wreaths entwine,
Open passage
And here and there beneath the shade
Open passage
Be food prepared and presents laid.
Open passage
Then brightly clad, in warlike guise,
Open passage
With long swords girt upon their thighs,
Open passage
Let soldiers of the nobler sort
Open passage
March to the monarch's splendid court.”
Open passage
Thus gave command the twice-born pair
Open passage
To active servants stationed there.
Open passage
Then hastened to the king and said
Open passage
That all their task was duly sped,
Open passage
The king to wise Sumantra spake:
Open passage
“Now quick, my lord, thy chariot take,
Open passage
And hither with thy swiftest speed
