THE SNOWBIRD'S SONG

Project Gutenberg EPUB3 edition Mabie, Hamilton Wright, Forbush, William Byron, and Hale, Edward Everett
Open passage
The ground was all covered with snow one day,
Open passage
And two little sisters were busy at play,
Open passage
When a snowbird was sitting close by on a tree,
Open passage
And merrily singing his chick-a-de-dee,
Open passage
Chick-a-de-dee, chick-a-de-dee,
Open passage
And merrily singing his chick-a-de-dee.
Open passage
He had not been singing that tune very long,
Open passage
Ere Emily heard him, so loud was his song:
Open passage
"Oh, sister, look out of the window," said she;
Open passage
"Here's a dear little bird singing chick-a-de-dee.
Open passage
"Oh, mother, do get him some stockings and shoes,
Open passage
And a nice little frock, and a hat if he choose;
Open passage
I wish he'd come into the parlor and see
Open passage
How warm we would make him, poor chick-a-de-dee."
Open passage
"There is one, my dear child, though I cannot tell who,
Open passage
Has clothed me already, and warm enough too.
Open passage
Good morning! Oh, who are so happy as we?"
Open passage
And away he went singing his chick-a-de-dee.
