Open passage
His hands in reverence Ráma raised
Open passage
And southward o'er the ocean gazed;
Open passage
Then on the sacred grass that made
Open passage
His lowly couch his limbs he laid.
Open passage
His head on that strong arm reclined
Open passage
Which Sítá, best of womankind,
Open passage
Had loved in happier days to hold
Open passage
With soft arms decked with pearls and gold.
Open passage
Then rising from his bed of grass,

Open passage
Who scorns the true, and hates the right,
Open passage
Whose hand is ever raised to smite.
Open passage
Each milder art is tried in vain:

Open passage
And victory owns no softer charm
Open passage
Than might which nerves a warrior's arm.
Open passage
My humble suit is still denied
Open passage
By Ocean's overweening pride.
Open passage
This day the monsters of the deep
Open passage
In throes of death shall wildly leap.
Open passage
My shafts shall rend the serpents curled
Open passage
In caverns of the watery world,
