Open passage
The Maithil lady, fair to see
Open passage
As the young leaflet of a tree
Open passage
Clad in the tender hues of spring,
Open passage
Flashed glory on the giant king,
Open passage
As when a gold-embroidered zone
Open passage
Around an elephant is thrown.
Open passage
While, bearing far the lady, through
Open passage
The realms of sky the giant flew,
Open passage
She like a gleaming meteor cast
Open passage
A glory round her as she passed.
Open passage
Then from each limb in swift descent
Open passage
Dropped many a sparkling ornament:
Open passage

Open passage
“My lady sweet, be comforted.”
Open passage
With faded blooms each brook within
Open passage
Whose waters moved no gleamy fin,
Open passage
Stole sadly through the forest dell
Open passage
Mourning the dame it loved so well.
Open passage
From every woodland region near
Open passage
Came lions, tigers, birds, and deer,
Open passage
And followed, each with furious look,
Open passage
The way her flying shadow took.
Open passage
For Sítá's loss each lofty hill
Open passage
Whose tears were waterfall, and rill,
Open passage
Lifting on high each arm-like steep,
Open passage
Seemed in the general woe to weep.
Open passage
When the great sun, the lord of day,
Open passage
Saw Rávaṇ tear the dame away,
Open passage
His glorious light began to fail
Open passage
And all his disk grew cold and pale.
Open passage
“If Rávaṇ from the forest flies
Open passage
With Ráma's Sítá as his prize,
